Organic Buttons

Taking inspiration from our own skin, I created organic shapes that trigger different light outputs depending on the way you squish them. I wanted to give life to electrical components, letting people feel that discomfort of interacting with textures that are so familiar yet so bizarre.

Circuit & Code

There is a flat force sensitive resistor that slips under the objects and connects to the back. I connected a string of lights to the top of the box and coded the interaction on Arduino.

Silicone Casting Process

To achieve a flesh-like texture, I used clay to create smooth positives, playing around with organic shapes and curves, then creating molds to cast the flesh colored silicone.
